Oceanic Airlines Flight 343 was a regularly-scheduled passenger flight from Athens, Greece to Washington DC. in the USA. However, shortly after takeoff in August 1995, the plane was hijacked by Islamic terrorists affiliated with the recently captured El Sayed Jaffa, led by Jaffa's lieutenant Nagi Hassan. Hassan offered to release half of the passengers upon landing at Dulles Airport in exchange for the release of Jaffa from custody. However, this was a smokescreen to mislead authorities, as Hassan's true plan was to detonate a bomb containing nerve agent DZ-5 over Washington. Luckily for the Eastern Seaboard, the plane was retaken by a US Special Forces team, who killed the terrorists and disarmed the bomb before landing the plane safely. Among the passengers on board the plane was US Senator Jason Mavros, who was executed by Hassan.

Oceanic Airlines Flight 343 appeared in the 1996 thriller Executive Decision. Oceanic Airlines is a fictional airline used in multiple films and television series (similar to the nation of Val Verde), most notably the J.J. Abrams series Lost.
