A disaster film is a film genre that has an impending or ongoing disaster as its subject and primary plot device. Such disasters include natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes or asteroid collisions, accidents such as shipwrecks or airplane crashes, or calamities like worldwide disease pandemics.

Often times with a Die Hard scenario film, it tends to be a man-made disaster or a simple routine often in a stand-alone disaster film such as an out-of-control passenger plane, survivors trapped in an earthquake or building while it only being set in that one designated location (much like the original Die Hard's detailed narrative), virus unleashing or a mixture of both.
